Nursing Day

Nursing is a very caring and responsible profession. Nurses are working with the doctors and paramedics staff to make the lives of people safe and sound. They play a vital role in maintaining the health of patients in the hospitals, clinics, health care centre, and education. Nursing has become a satisfying occupation that provides social protection for the nurses. They are secure and energetic. They are more trained and skillful now than ever before. They enjoy an attractive salary around the world. Bacon once uttered the significance of Nurses symbolizing the wife in old age who becomes a nurse of the husband. It signifies the importance and need of Nurse. Unfortunately, there is a global shortage of nurses in hospitals and health care units. There may be a shortage of Nurses more than the doctors available in the hospitals.

In the UK and US, Nurses diagnose the patients like practitioners and suggest prescriptions. They can have independent clinics and health centres to look after the patients to avoid their health crises. They are more powerful and enjoy the charm of the nursing profession. They actively take part in preventive measures stepped-up by the government. Recently, they played a significant role in the prevention of COvid19. They were vigorously front liner the whole time while the world was under influence of the virus.  Many of them were to face demise but they remained strong and stable.

The profession of Nursing started earlier around 600 BC in India because the role of a nurse as defined in ‘Sushruta Samhita', there should be a person who could examine the human body’s anatomy and could define the exact analysis, and might provide good care as an attendant. This profession was honoured and respected throughout history because people did respect doctors and nurses. Before the modernization of nursing, this was the profession of nuns, monks, and other religious people who took part in the rehabilitation of the health of people.

The Crimean war proved to be the first step to revolutionise the profession of nursing as Florence Nightingale modernised the nursing profession by introducing preventive measures and maintenance of the surroundings of the patient. There were insufficient facilities for health care during WWI but nurses made their best. WWI invited more nurses throughout the world to meet the challenges of wounds. This led to more advancements and public acknowledgement of the nursing profession.

Many pieces of literature were published in the support of nursing. There were a lot of movies that provoked the people to join nursing willingly. Since then, nursing has had public acceptance. Some of the critics of women working publicly opposed female nursing but time proved them wrong. Nowadays, male nursing has been introduced in the health care sector. The nursing profession has become the backbone of the healthcare system. A week from 6th May to 12th May is celebrated as a week for nurses globally.

We offer a great tribute to all the nurses working around the world on the international day of nursing.
