Shiv Kumar Sharma passes away

 Shivkumar Sharma was an Indian composer and santoor player from Jammu. He was born in 1938 in Jammu and Kashmir in British Raj. He introduced santoor internationally in such a way that was never played before him. Santoor is a folk instrument but his style of playing got recognised around the globe. He started his career with a single man effort on a solo album in 1960. Shivkumar Sharma made people love the folk type of music which was previously underrated by pop music. He worked hard for the nourishment of local music with his industrious struggle. He led a decent career. He sang for many super hit movies like "fasley", and " darr". He hit the largest audience. Shiv Kumar Sharma married Manorama and the couple got sons. However, his son Rahul has performed with him in many movies and shows. He believes that Rahul has an innate ability of singing. 

His departure has left a vacuum likely to be not filled whatsoever because the love and passion he endorsed through his voice will be increasingly inherited by his offspring. 

Not many humans recognize that he has performed tabla inside the very famous music 'Mo se chal Kiye jaaye' sung by Lata Mangeshkar in the 1965 movie Guide, on the insistence of RD Burman.

In 1967, he teamed up with flautist Hariprasad Chaurasia and guitarist Brij Bhushan Kabra to supply a concept album, Call of the Valley 1967, which turned out to be certainly one of Indian classical music's best hits. Further, he composed songs for plenty of Hindi films in collaboration with Hariprasad Chaurasia, beginning with Silsila in 1980. They got here to be known as the Shiv-Hari music duo. Some of the movies they composed music for have been musical hits.

Shivkumar Sharma is the recipient of national and international awards, including honorary citizenship of the city of Baltimore, USA, in 1985, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1986, the Padma Shri in 1991, and the Padma Vibhushan in 2001. Platinum Disc for Call of the Valley
